What Questions to Ask
During a very cold and dark March I was to present an artist lecture about my work at the Akureyri Art Museum, in the far north of Iceland. I was also able to use the time to live in a SIM artist residency for three weeks while I made the work. Walking daily past the sea and the sky, I became aware that the only colors I really sensed around me were blue and grey. Although I never normally use blue, I used it here and went in depth with it. Using a variety of materials, these surfaces allowed me to understand more about the way the color blue might be interpreted, but also understand more about the nature of the color.
The best complement I received about the exhibition was from a man who came in and stood quietly looking at the works on paper for a long time. When he finally spoke to me he said that I had made him suddenly aware of what he had seen happening everyday in the sea and the sky on his way to work.
